There's a new double issue of Renewal out, and I have a review of Erik Olin Wright's Envisioning Real Utopias. The book is hugely impressive and will hopefully inspire new empirical work on non-capitalist economic structures and practices. What I found tough and somewhat grating about the book itself was its austerity and endless, laborious deductive rationality. I guess producing a wholly new version of socialism isn't meant to be fun - but (and here I contradict my Schumpeterian scepticism of last week) I couldn't help wondering if there couldn't be a little more room granted for the experimental wing of anti-capitalist institution-building. A pdf of my article is here.
